Molecular & Genomic Testing
Advanced testing to better understand the characteristics of your cancer and help guide personalized treatment decisions.
Two cancers that look similar under a microscope can behave very differently. Molecular and genomic testing examines the specific genetic changes present in a tumor, which can reveal information that standard pathology alone does not.
When appropriate for your diagnosis, this testing helps identify whether treatments that target a particular genetic change may be an option for you, and can help rule out approaches that are unlikely to help.

Testing we use
- Next-generation sequencing (NGS)
- Tumor molecular profiling
- Biomarker testing
- Hereditary cancer testing
How it fits into your care
- Testing is ordered when the results could realistically change your treatment plan, not routinely for every patient.
- Most testing is performed on tissue already collected during a biopsy or surgery, so an additional procedure is often not needed. Some tests can be run from a blood sample.
- Results typically take a few weeks. Dr. Nasser will walk you through what was found, what it means for your options, and what it does not tell us.
- Hereditary cancer testing looks at inherited risk rather than the tumor itself, and the results may be relevant to your family members as well. We will discuss that fully with you before any testing is ordered.
